Today’s excursion took us south to Elk Neck State Park in Maryland. When we left the house our plan was to go even further south. Just going on a drive on such a nice day was what we needed with all this cabin fever going around.

When we realized our planned destination didn’t have a  “water feature” we thought about finding something that did. Karen suggested we instead go visit the lighthouse at Turkey Point and we reprogrammed the GPS for our new destination.

We had visited before and would have to wait in line for parking, the lot is small, it only holds about 25 cars. But not today!  One space left and we quickly grabbed it.

The walk to the lighthouse is a very easy path. Some of you know our daily goal is 2 miles and the lighthouse is only 3/4 of a mile from the lot so we figured we would circle it a few times if needed to get our milage in. As we approached the bay side we notice a path into the woods marked “lighthouse trail”. I guess we assumed we had already walked the lighthouse trail on the way in and this one was not on the map but we needed steps so we darted into the woods to see where it might lead. We ended up descending down to the waterline with an awesome view of the bay. Never even knew this path was here. Found a bench to enjoy the view for a few minutes then back up to the lighthouse to complete our walk.

We notice someone has been placing little Pine Cone Gnomes around the park. We spotted two but I’ll bet there are a few more if we looked closer. It was a really nice diversion from the lockdown and now onto planning tomorrow’s outing.
