About Us

Welcome to our blog! We are empty nester’s embarking on retirement in the next  5 to 10 years. We have been happily married for over 31 years and have 2 amazing daughters (and a granddaughter). Since the early part of our relationship we have anticipated spending 100% of our time together.

Quarantine sort of forced us to begin that aspiration a little earlier than retirement. We both have a competitive nature and love to have fun and make memories. So, to be honest, the pandemic didn’t impact us as much as others.

We decided to start a lifestyle blog because we wanted an heirloom for our girls to share with their family. It also gives us an opportunity to connect with others who share the same interests and hobbies. So as we begin this blogging journey, hold on to your britches because who knows what we will try next!

About Karen

Many years as a homemaker and caregiver to my children has molded me into a creative craftsperson. I’ve used all of my experiences in life to arrive at this point. I love making one of a kind artworks that I call WOW pieces. I enjoy quilting, weaving, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, tatting, cross stitching, blackwork, book folding, quilling, zentangle, string art, crewel work, and basically anything found in a craft store. Most of my creations fill the rooms in my parents’s home. As a stay-at-home mother, I have been fortunate to raise my children and be available to teach and guide them into their future. I have witnessed them using the skills they accrued while watching me. I love to cook and use recipes as a step-off point, more of a guideline making small adjustments to make the dish my own whether it be healthier or spicier. I am certified in Nutrition and Healthy Living, Plant Based Nutrition, and Medicinal Plants through Cornell University online educational studies. I also completed the Forks over Knives culinary course. In the summer months you will find me gardening with Dennis and the dogs or traveling in our RV. We desire to visit as many states as we can in our RV in our retirement.

About Dennis

I’m a Nuclear Engineer working for a Fortune 200 Utility Company and am getting close to retiring. Things I enjoy are RVing, model railroading (Both N and G Scale), technology (love tinkering with home automation), hiking, movies, and craft beer. I should also mention I’m an Apple fanboy and a bit of an Appoholic. For 5 years my wife kept saying she wanted to start a blog. We talked a lot about it but never took the step (except for buying a few how-to books, we are really good at buying books). We kept kicking around ideas on what would be on it, her crafts, cooking, details about trips we take… then we starting thinking about the interests I have in addition to those we share (RVing, technology, etc). It became clear that a niche blog wouldn’t work. So I started to set up an area for us to take a stab at it and here it is. I’m not a english major and not a great speller, so you might have to put up with my lack of writing ability. I hope to share some things I’ve learned and some things I really like. Not out to talk about religion or politics, please take that somewhere else. So while this is mainly Karen’s passion you will just have to put up with posts from me once in a while cause, hey, retireMeantfor TWO.
